What is Normless?

Normless is a word meaning without norms. 

Our podcast is a series of conversations with individuals who haven’t chosen standard models of behaviour, standard ways to achieve performance or outcomes, nor standard wars to live their lives. 

They have pathed their own unique way through sport, business, adventure, the arts and their communities. Challenging the norms and sometimes changing the way people think and industries work – they are normless people you may never have heard of. 

Each episode gives our audience the opportunity to hear intriguing and often previously untold stories. Stories of sacrifice and challenge, tough life lessons learnt, adaption and reinvention. 

Each guest will share some of their own philosophies, which the listener can apply to their own lives. 

The Four Pillars of the Podcast

We have developed four pillars, from which form the framework of each episode:

  • New or unique philosophies
  • Knowledge of intriguing topics that informs and/or challenges
  • Lessons learnt through tough life experiences/sacrifices

Dr Eric Trexler previously held a USAPL state squat record in powerlifting and earned his pro status as a drug free bodybuilder after coming from a background in baseball, football and wrestling throughout high school. 

Since 2009 Eric has been coaching a variety of athletes including wrestlers, football players and Special Olympics powerlifters. More recently, he has pivoted towards helping people reach a wide range of fitness and wellness goals through his online coaching programs at Trexler Fitness LLC.

Eric has obtained Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Exercise Science and completed a PhD in Human Movement Science at UNC Chapel Hill. While pursuing his degrees, he completed extensive coursework related to movement, exercise, nutrition, metabolism, psychology and behaviour change.

Trexler has since published over 50 peer-reviewed papers and a few book chapters. Most of his research has focused on practical strategies to help people get bigger, stronger, leaner, healthier and more athletic. Currently he is conducting metabolism research out of Duke University.

Over the past decade, Martin has spent most of his time working as a fitness coach and studying at university. Martin has a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, and will very soon have a PhD in Exercise Science. This academic journey highlights Martin’s commitment to learning, love for self-development, passion for sharing knowledge with the wider community, and eagerness to make original contributions to knowledge through research. Whilst studying, Martin has published multiple academic papers and have also taught human and exercise physiology at university-level. Martin has managed a large workload, varying from part time to full time over the past decade, spending many hours working with clients in-person on the gym floor, and upskilling the next generation of personal trainers and exercise scientists. Martin also conducts national and international educational seminars on a regular basis and has presented at conferences in Spain, Singapore, and Bangkok.

Martin takes a large degree of responsibility in his role as a coach and Education Manager at JPS Health & Fitness and employs the scientific method to inform his practice and guide decision making.
